A figure competition is a group of athletes who have trained and dieted in a certain manner to present their physiques in a posing suit in front of a panel of judges in hopes to place well.
The popular figure contests emerged in 2001 in hopes to encourage more women to compete in physique
contests. The original plan was to use figure contests so women could get the feel of competing on stage without having to compete against well-developed female bodybuilders and highly athletic fitness competitors.
Since its introduction, figure has grown by leaps and bounds since it doesn’t require massive amounts of extreme muscle development or definition, or even an athletic fitness routine. Figure is judged on muscle tone rather than sheer muscle size.
To compete in a figure contest all you need is a desire, some direction in proper dieting, training, cardio, and posing. Most competitors, new and seasoned, can prepare for a figure competition in as little as 12 weeks.
A figure show involves a competitor to display her physique on stage in a line-up of her peers. Each athlete performs a series of quarter turns in a two-piece posing wearing high heels. The figure competitors are judged on muscularity, muscle separation, and overall leanness.
