Tips and Tricks for the First Time Figure Competitor

Admit it. You have toyed with the idea of entering one of those ever-so-popular figure competitions. However, you shy away, scared you don’t think you can get in shape, or have the dedication to make it through the diet and training program.

I have some good news for you. I’m going to share with you little secret tips and ticks for the first time figure competitor. With these tips you will have the competitive advantage to look and act like a pro your very first time on the figure stage.


Tip #1 – Eat a balanced diet
A balanced diet can mean many things to many different people. A balanced diet for an over weight person can greatly different from a balanced diet for a figure competitor. A figure competitor generally has a decent muscle

base and need to build and maintain it while losing body fat. Therefore, a balanced diet for a figure competitor can include a 40-45% protein, 30-35% fat, and 20-30% carbs.


Tip #2 – Know how to manipulate your carbs
Some tips and tricks for the first time figure competitor may general, but you need to read between the lines. Carbs, for example, can be used as a trigger to burn body fat like crazy. The little technique is to separate the complex and starchy carbs form the non-starchy carbs. Use the complex and starchy carbs as a primer and interject non-starchy veggies to sky-rocket fat loss. When you implement this technique correctly, you can lose up to a pound of fat a week.


Tip #3 – Watch your protein
Be careful with your protein intake. Some tips and tricks for the first time figure competitor are not so obvious. Protein is a good example. Protein is GREAT for building and keeping your lean muscle mass, but a lot of figure competitors are eating far too much protein for their body weight. You don’t need excess protein to diet for a figure contest. You only need the amount of protein required for your body is varies between 40-45%.


Tip #4 – Go higher reps
You heard that right. Don’t get caught up in the muscle building myths of “higher reps don’t get you cut.” Well, that’s true. However, when you are training for a figure contest, as you lose body fat your strength will decrease a little, and you will need to compensate with a few more reps to get through the set. No worries though. As long as you take the set to complete failure, you will still stimulate the growth fibers.

These are just a few simple tips and tricks for the first time figure competitor. While they may seem unconventional, they are the true secret to getting lean and defined for your figure contest.
